Howth Head
The headland of Howth is the northern end of Dublin Bay,
a sweeping crescent of horizonless blue, mirrored on the south by Killiney Hill, with Bray Head beyond.
An all-engulfing swathe of scrub speckled with flowers of red and golden yellow heathers lies under a grey-blue sky, echoed in exposed karst, craggy shards of quartzite and mudstone, peppered with minerals in chartreuse and umber, punctuated by olive green gorse invading every crack.

Killiney Hill
Thousands of travellers pass daily under a secret world as Dublin’s DART train glides between it and the horizonless expanse of blue it looks onto - ‘Dublin’s Bay of Naples’. Rambling trails rise from sea to summit between tumbling walls, peppered with delicate flowers, concealing gorgeous Mediterranean gardens.
As we climb, we catch glimpses of Greystones and Bray, then Dublin Bay, the Great South Wall and Howth Head. Finally at the peak the views sweep to the south over the Wicklow Mountains and to the north over Dublin, as far as the Mournes in Ulster.
The deepest of our 3 shades in the Ashford Moss story. Double-faced moss green Pocket Square, Silk and Linen, 23cm x 25cm, Woven and Handmade in Ireland. Available with either 4 stamp cut edges (or 3 stamp cut and 1 fringed edge).
Inspiration
The ancient island village of Cong straddles two counties on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, between the loughs of Corrib and Mask. A sacred battleground in Celtic folklore, a 7th Century Abbey where Ireland’s last high king died, and later the backdrop to John Wayne’s ‘The Quiet Man’, this is a place where time doesn’t dare move.
At the centre of this village, accessible only through a series of turreted drawbridges guarded by footmen, Falcons & Great Irish Wolfhounds, is Ireland’s Neuschwanstein, Ashford Castle.
Inside its walled grounds every tree carries this unique iridescent moss, the texture of a dragon’s skin.
Brown pink silk and linen pocket square, 23cm x 25cm, woven and handmade in Ireland.
New York in the Fall. A train ride out from the city.
We pass through the woodlands amidst the falling leaves.
Each one drifts, unique like a snowflake, glowing, backlit in the Autumn sun, the orange and terra cotta tones give way to glimpses of green, the last dance of the season, giving life to the soil.

Double-faced Pink and Orange Pocket Square (available with 2 stamp cut edges and 2 fringed), Silk and Linen, 23cm x 25cm, Woven and Handmade in Ireland.
The slicing of a pink Grapefruit. Fluid Ruby red glistening fractals hiding under an eggshell sheen, porous (and oh so fragrant when you scratch, with a burst of juice like from an atomiser) skin in leathery blood orange. Leaves of crinkly green. And the mouth feel. The multi-sensory experience of it transcends language, sight, taste, smell, touch.
It’s one of many things I see in the source inspiration, and in the piece. But to you maybe it’s a fiery sunset on a hot Manhattan day. To me it is too.
The mid-tone of our 3 shades in the Ashford Moss story. Double-faced moss green Pocket Square, Silk and Linen, 23cm x 25cm, Woven and Handmade in Ireland. Available with either 4 stamp cut edges (or 3 stamp cut and 1 fringed edge).

One of our most popular stories. Available with either 4 stamp cut edges (or 3 stamp cut and 1 fringed edge). Double-faced Green and Black Pocket Square, Silk and Linen, 23cm x 25cm, Woven and Handmade in Ireland.
Resplendent in green and grey, with hues of iron and wine, these ancient peaks lie to the south of the city, yet Dublin feels faraway hidden just beneath the Sugarloaf mountain.
Swathes of gorse and grass are broken up by shimmering slivers of granite - weather-worn into smooth streams and crunchy paths, both bordered by buds of burgundy and rust, all under a sweeping stripe of cool grey sky.
Buttercup yellow silk and linen pocket square. Brendan Joseph signature discreetly woven into the bottom of the square.
Yellow Pocket Square, stamp cut edges, Silk and Linen, 23cm x 25cm, Woven and Handmade in Ireland.

Bright Glacial Petrol Blue Pocket square (stamp cut edges), Silk and Linen, 23cm x 25cm, Woven and Handmade in Ireland.
It’s hard to define or describe the effervescent energy of Switzerland’s glacial lakes, and their incredible show of colour, constantly changing throughout the seasons. This is St. Moritz Bad (lake) in the canton of Graubünden in late March as Winter thaws and Spring begins.
Early morning mist intensifies the light low on the water: A dance of bright glacial petrol blue. The midday sun awakens coppery blue, and at Sunset it dances again in the deepest cyans and teals, giving way to a blanket of peppermint grey in the fading evening light.
Flowers in the Light Purple Silk and Linen Pocket Square, stamp cut edges, 23cm x 25cm, Woven and Handmade in Ireland.
Flowers in the City
5:30AM - First Light: Greek Street / Mary’s Lane. While Dublin sleeps the Victorian wholesale market is a whir of voices and forklifts.
Fruit, veg and flowers bought and sold.
12:00PM - Noon: Grafton Street. The ‘flower ladies’ have been a burst of colour here for 300 years, selling simple blooms that say so much.
8:30PM - Dusk - Time and space to sit and savour... to notice:
The delicate petals of the magenta iris and its silver-green stem are split by the tiniest sliver of chartreuse. Well-crafted details are what make life less ordinary, sometimes they’re imperceptible,
sometimes all it takes to be inspired is to notice.
The palest pink, like evening light reflected on snow, changing colours depending on the light...a rosy hue, or an icy blue.
Soft light pink Pocket Square, stamp cut edges, Silk and Linen, 23cm x 25cm, Woven and Handmade in Ireland.
The first powdery blanket of winter snow drifts overnight into the walled garden, diffusing the early morning light. Crystals form, dew turns to fine lace, then evaporates. On the climbing rose, a gentle pink and blush white, droplets form and break. Traces remain like veins or a desert’s dry streams, remnants of waves receding across sand. The virgin snow glows like a kaleidoscope of pale pinks, soon to become fuel for snowballs, but as of yet, its surface is disturbed only by the tracks of a running fox.

Dublin from the Hills
Dublin’s shimmering lights yield to ancient foothills, nestling the city from the south, resplendent in greens and greys.
As we walk here at sunrise and sunset, amongst swathes of pine and gorse, along smooth flowing streams and crunchy paths of shimmering granite, all peppered with minerals, lichen, flowers and buds.
Dublin wakes and sleeps beneath us, streams of cars and flickering streetlamps illuminate the road below all fading far in the distance into a slate blue sky.
